There is something about a meal in great Paris restaurant: the server's expertise, {relatively} affordable wine, appropriately-sized portions, fresh ingredients. I also appreciate that you can get a quality three-course lunch for about €25 (I generally go with the plat du jour).
Everyone has a different list of Paris restaurants that you "must try". Friends constantly ask me about my favorites when planning a visit to the French capital. Condé Nast Traveler has compiled a list of the 50 Best Paris Restaurants for 2015 and a few of my favorites, both old and new, made the cut.
Here are some of my favorite Paris restaurants
from Conde Nast Traveler's 50 Best Paris Restaurants list:
Breizh Café - an affordable, casual creperie in the Marais that takes the art of crepes to a new level. The vegetable crepe is a thing of beauty. It's also great for kids but usually packed. Try going after lunch or for an early dinner to avoid the crowds.
La Brasserie de l'Isle Saint Louis - anyone who visits the islands in the middle of Paris will see this spot at the tip of the Isle St. Louis. It's not a wretched tourist trap! We stayed on the Isle St. Louis during our last trip and while we only enjoyed a cheese plate and some wine here, everything looked divine.
Le Comptoir - so hip, so popular, so worth it. The nightly prix fixe menu is a deal.
Restaurant Astier - we trotted out to the 11th on a blustery cold day to eat lunch here. It was worth every frozen finger. This place turned out to be a true neighborhood spot. We visited with a flirtatious, dapper man in his late 70's who eats lunch there every day.
We also enjoyed one of the best meals we had during our trip that included an amazing seafood pot, beef cheeks and an exquisite baked apple dessert. Restaurant Astier is known for its cheese plate. After such a sumptuous meal, we couldn't do it. Dang! We'll just have to make a return visit.

Other Great Paris Restaurants
Mon Viel Ami Pumpkin Soup |
Mon Viel Ami Pot au Poule |
While not on Condé Nast's list, Mon Viel Ami on the Isle St. Louis is amazing. We dined there during our November/December 2014 trip. We had a fabulous lunch that featured a gorgeous pumpkin soup, pot au poule and a delicious guinea fowl dish for my daughter.
Le Mesturet in the 2nd and the legendary Bofinger were two other fab finds we discovered during our 2014 trip.
